- Introduction: restate the situation and answer both questions in brief: the main reasons, and whether it is positive or negative.
- The reasons: competition for university places and jobs, smaller families, and parents’ own ambitions and comparisons with others.
- Positive or negative: some expectation motivates children, but excessive pressure causes anxiety, fear of failure and strained relationships.
- Conclusion: summarise the reasons and give your overall judgement.
