Task 2425 words

Many people believe that the best way to produce a happier society is to ensure that there are only small differences in earnings between the richest and the poorest members. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

In recent years, the impact of the widening gap between the wealthy and the poor on societal happiness has sparked an intense debate. While it is true that narrowing the income gaps can contribute to a more harmonious society, I would argue that it is not the only or necessarily the most effective path to collective happiness. Instead, I think factors such as access to essential services and overall quality of life play a far greater role in shaping a more content society.

When people earn similar wages and wealth is more evenly distributed, they are less likely to feel excluded or resentful towards others, leaving less room for class-based tensions. Nordic countries can be a perfect example. Since the income inequality in these nations is relatively low, life satisfaction among people is often reported to be higher compared to other parts of the world.

RevisedMinimizing the income gap, it can be argued, can help promote fairness and greater social cohesion.

These services are the foundations of a decent quality of life, and when citizens recognize that they are provided with high-quality facilities, their happiness increases regardless of income differences. Germany, for example, provides affordable healthcare and higher education to all, which significantly reduces social stress and improves life satisfaction – even though income disparities still exist. Thus, I feel ensuring equitable access to necessary public services is more effective than simply trying to equalize salaries.

  1. Coherence & cohesion

RevisedI, however, believe that the greater determinant of overall happiness is the equal access to basic services such as healthcare, education, and housing, rather than a minimized earnings gap.

This revision provides a clearer and more direct statement of the argument, which can help to improve the flow of ideas.

In many communities, the happiest people are usually those who have strong relationships with their family, friends and community. Additionally, individuals tend to lead a more content life when societies respect their autonomy and create an atmosphere where they can feel free to pursue their goals. In Costa Rica, for instance, despite noticeable income discrepancies, people report high happiness levels, largely due to strong family ties and a sense of belonging.

  1. Coherence & cohesion

RevisedWe should also not overlook the impact of non-material factors such as family relationships, personal freedom, and cultural values on happiness.

This revision provides a more direct and clear statement of the point, which can help to improve the flow of ideas.

  2. Grammar & accuracy

RevisedThis highlights the fact that emotional and social fulfillment in life play a more significant role in determining overall human contentment.

The revised sentence corrects the subject-verb agreement, improving the grammatical accuracy.

In conclusion, while reducing income inequality may contribute to a more fulfilled and fairer society, it is not the most critical driver of happiness. I believe ensuring equal access to much-needed services and fostering social bonds are more powerful approaches to creating a content and thriving society.
