Is scientific research a waste?: IELTS Task 2 essay #9, band 8.0

Some people think that scientific research is only done for academic reasons and does not help normal people in real life. I agree with this idea because some research is too complex, but I also believe that much of it bring useful result for society.

These types of research are often hard to understand and may not be useful in daily life. For example, some physics or space-related studies might take many years to show results or may never lead to something that people can use. In these cases, it is fair to say that they do not help ordinary people in the short term.
