Task 2290 words

Some people believe that a lot of scientific research done today is a waste of time and money. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

There is an ongoing debate over whether many people argue that a bunch of scientific research conducted nowadays is merely a waste of time and money.

  1. Grammar & accuracy

RevisedAlthough some people consider that this research is unnecessary or impractical, I largely disagree with this viewpoint for several reasons.

The word 'research' is uncountable in English, so the correct form is 'this research' not 'these researches'.

Scientists use modern technologies regularly in order to find a cure for serious diseases. For example, research in medicine has led to life-saving vaccines, cancer treatments, and advanced surgical procedures. Likewise, scientific projects in communication and transportation have transformed the modern world, making life more convenient and efficient.

  1. Coherence & cohesion

RevisedI disagree with this notion for the key reason that scientific research has consistently brought remarkable improvements to human life.

This revision provides a clearer and more direct statement of the main point.

  2. Grammar & accuracy

RevisedWithout continuous research, society would struggle to address emerging global challenges such as climate change, food shortages, and infectious diseases.

The phrase 'continuous research' is more appropriate in this context.

Researchers often use trial and error, even if it initially seems irrelevant, and it may later become extremely valuable. A good case in point is the Internet, GPS, and even smartphones, all of which are indirect results of scientific and military research conducted decades ago. Therefore, even if some projects do not produce immediate outcomes, their future contributions can be extremely valuable for society.

  1. Coherence & cohesion

RevisedAdditionally, a significant benefit of continuous scientific research is the often-unforeseen long-term benefits of scientific developments.

This revision improves the flow and clarity of the sentence.

  2. Lexical resource

RevisedWhen governments appropriately allocate their budgets to scientific research, it can create more opportunities for scientists to undertake other significant studies.

The revised sentence is more formal and precise.

  3. Lexical resource

RevisedThese discoveries have significantly enhanced people’s lives.

The word 'enhanced' is a more appropriate choice in this context.

  4. Grammar & accuracy

RevisedThey have helped improve education, business, and communication on a global scale.

The revised sentence is more concise and uses more formal language.

To conclude, although scientific studies cannot bring direct and instant benefits, I firmly believe that scientific research is a worthwhile investment because some modern technologies, medical advancements, and long-term economic developments are unexpected results of scientific experiments.
